Annual Wine Dinner and Auction
Silent Auction Description and Lot numbers
1. Three bottles of red wine from Fabbioli Cellars, Leesburg, VA
2017 Zinfandel: Jammy and fruit forward is the best way to describe this classic Old Vine varietal. The descriptions of aromas, flavors and mouthfeel will continue to flow as the glass is refilled. Our climate in the Mid-Atlantic makes growing this grape variety too challenging but working with out-of-state growers and brokers has been a flavorful experience. Enjoy this hearty Zin with a few well-spirited souls.
2018 Tre Sorelle: Italian for three sisters, this wine is a tribute to all women and dedicated to the spirit of three sisters. Individual and uniquely different, together they are truly amazing. Enjoy the combined personalities of this wine. Blend: 40% Merlot; 25% Petit Verdot; 20% Cabernet Franc; 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.
2021 Cabernet Franc: The ground, grower and grape come together to create the terroir that this estate-grown jewel expresses. Through judicious barrel choices and careful blending, our reserve Cabernet Franc represents the next level of quality Virginia wine.
2. Three bottles of white wine from Fabbioli Cellars, Leesburg, VA
2020 Chardonnay: This 100% Loudoun (VA) wine is such a delight. The nose is filled with incredible fresh white blossoms with vanilla and fresh coconut. The palate bursts open with fresh green apple and bright lemons with creamy, smooth butterscotch on the finish.
2021 “Something White”: The varietal composition of the Something White changes each year, giving Fabbioli’s winemaker the creative license to select the best available fruit from the year’s harvest. This simplistically elegant wine is floral, fruity, and has a crisp finish that will complement many occasions and dishes.
Una Pera: Lightly sweet, crisp and fruitful, we make this wine from locally-grown Asian pears. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif with some lighter cheeses and great company
3. “Wine and Chocolate”
One bottle of Raspberry Merlot from Fabbioli Cellars, Leesburg, VA
Varietal Composition: 35% Raspberry Wine, 65% Merlot and other Varietals
Tasting Notes: A blend of grapes and perfectly ripe raspberries, this deliciously sweet wine is best paired with lots of chocolate.
One 30-piece box of artisan chocolates from Artisan Confections in Arlington, VA.
Artisan Confections specializes in high-quality, hand-made chocolates that are elegant in both design and flavor. Their recipes creatively blend high-quality ingredients that subtly enhance the star of the show – Valrhona chocolate – considered the best in the industry. Instead of fillers and loads of sugar, you’ll find organic, locally sourced, top-shelf ingredients in our kitchen and contemporary designs made out of cocoa butter. The result is a collection of smooth and creamy confections that look as stunning as they taste.
4. “Wine and Pasta for Two”
One bottle of Fabbioli Cellars (Leesburg, VA) Tannat, with Lydia’s Italian Spaghetti and a jar of Cucina Antica Marina Pasta Sauce.
2015 Tannat: This Tannat is a nod to the visionaries who saw the potential of this grape in Loudoun county (VA). Inviting aromas lead into a hardy and firm mi palate. The tannins are balanced with acidity and showcase dark berry fruit and earthy flavors and oak on the palate. This wine will rival a Syrah and does will in the mid-Atlantic’s cool climate region, for which intensity and structure prevail. Enjoy with medium rare cooked meats and sharp cheeses.
5. “Not-your-Average (and not just Apple) Cider”
One bottle of Fabbioli’s “Perry” Pear Cider (7% alcohol). Crisp, dry, and refreshing, this pear cider has bright carbonation that highlights the fresh pear flavors.
One bottle of Fabbioli’s “Ladies Man” Apple Raspberry Cider (7% alcohol): Warren (the cat on the label) is a ladies man. Often seen parading around the tasting room, Warren is coy and playing it cool. Women flock to his side, believing they are the only one in Warren’s world. Just like Warren, this libation is slightly sweet, but irresistible. Bright and fruity, this cider is subtly sweet with a balance of zest from the carbonation. www.fabbioliwines.com
6. “A Chill is in the Air”
One bottle of Fabbioli’s 2020 Chardonnay. This 100% Loudoun (VA) wine is such a delight. The nose is filled with incredible fresh white blossoms with vanilla and fresh coconut. 7. “The Perfect Ending”
One bottle of Fabbioli’s port-style NV Royalty: This after dinner winter warmer is a traditional port style wine fortified with our own brandy. The extended time in barrel has allowed the different components to develop into a complex flavor profile. The nose opens with smoke and hickory, followed by blackberry and vanilla. Cinnamon, black pepper, and vanilla add a little spice to the blackberry fruit on the palate. This traditional port style wine is ready to enjoy now, but will age and develop beautifully for several years.
8. “Whiskey from Virginia”

Catoctin describes a range of mountains and the creek which flows picturesquely past the distillery and into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Watershed.
Roundstone Rye® is a very unique rye whisky, made completely from scratch at our distillery in Purcellville, Virginia. This pre-Prohibition style rye whisky is made from 100% rye grain, sourced locally when available. It is mashed, fermented, distilled and aged completely in our distillery, before bottling at a very sippable 80 proof. Aged in new Minnesota white oak casks for just under two years, the whisky is smooth, woody, with that true grain character achieved in a relatively young whisky. Brandy is an old world tradition–our European ancestors drank brandy after dinner for its soothing and warming qualities. Imagine settling in with a nice glass of warm brandy, while sitting by a fire with your favorite novel. Or try adding it to a warm glass of eggnog. Delicious!
Catoctin Creek 1757® Virginia Brandy is Virginia’s first commercial grape brandy since the establishment of the Commonwealth. Made from the finest locally-grown Virginia wine grapes, it is distilled and aged in premium French Bordeaux oak barrels for at least two years. Chesapeake Bay: We like to call the flavor “Elevated Essence of the Chesapeake”. A zesty pepper sauce using a myriad of spices, apple cider vinegar, bay leaves, jalapeños, mustard and ginger. We think it’s great with everything! Pair with crabs, oysters, shrimp, clams and fish. Excellent with eggs, steak, lamb, chicken, vegetables and french fries. Heat: 2/10
Texas: We took on Texas with a curious appetite for barbecue. After touring the Lone Star state, we chose serranos, cucumbers and brisket rub to represent the essence of Texas. Pair with barbecued meats, grilled vegetables, tacos, pulled pork and eggs. Heat: 5/10
Virginia: Inspired by an 1850’s Virginia BBQ recipe with peaches, peanuts, jalapeños, habaneros, rye whiskey and smoked paprika. Pair with pulled pork, grilled meats, or vegetables! Heat: 6/10
Assam: Assam is a state in northeastern India and home to the ghost pepper. As an homage to the region, we created a fragrant curry with a depth of flavor which perfectly balances the warmth of the ghost pepper and the added heat of the 7 pot primo. Pair with reduced coconut milk for an amazingly quick, yet complex curry. Heat: 7/10

Parker (95)
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Campo del Drago (with only 8,000 bottles made) comes from a little vineyard measuring just 1.5 hectares. It is located at a high 450 meters above sea level, and what this parcel lacks in size, it makes up for in terms of view and exposure. The entire Castiglion del Boco property is surrounded by thick shrub oak forests, as the very name of the estate suggests (“bosco” means “forest” in Italian), with wild boar, roe deer and foxes (plenty of foxes). You most certainly smell aromas of underbrush and forest floor in this wine along with dark fruit, cherry and plum.
