“The LVAC has 3 wrestlers competing this weekend in the Dave Schultz
International held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Matt Valenti, Keith Gavin, and Steve Mocco have all reached the semi finals that will go on at 4pm MST (6pm EST).”

“MATT VALENTI (60kg) first upended Ryley Walker of Canada 7-0, 3-1 to face former NCAA Champion Coleman Scott of the Gator WC.  Matt scored a double leg to lock up the first period 1-0.  After the second period ended 0-0 we went to the clinch with Matt gaining the advantageous lock but was unable to finish and got whipped over for 3, to lose 0-3.  In the final period Matt again scored on a double leg and Coleman almost countered with :12 left.
“There was no call, which was then challenged by the Gator coaches.  The original call was upheld (giving Matt another point) and he was able to hang on for the 2-0 victory.  He will now face Shogo Maeda of Japan.”

“KEITH GAVIN beat for Rider wrestler Jason Lapham 3-2, 6-0 in his first bout and then handled another former Rider standout Doug Umbehauer (NLWC) 2-0,

3-0.  He will now face Shinya Matsumoto of Japan in the semis.”

“In his first return to competition since early 2010, STEVE MOCCO wasted no time in securing a front headlock for the first point against Andrew Delaney.  Steve then turned a single wrist into a pinning combination and got the fall just 0:47 into the first period.  He will now face Alexei Shemarov of Belarus.  This will be Steve’s first real test in his return as Shemarov placed 3rd in this year’s European Champioships and 11th in the World Championships.  He has also won the prestigious Ivan Yarygin tournament held annually in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

“Mocco has also laid claim to a Yarygin title, a feat that only 9 other Americans have ever done.”

“Should be a good session !” Coach Kutz
