Coach Kutz Blogs From Medellin, Columbia (2011 Pan Am Games)

(3:11 PM, EST, May 6)

Ok, made it down here ok.  3 hour flight from Miami.  Flew into Medellin and hotel is like 1 mile from airport.  Place is very nice and the food is great (so is coffee) so I can’t complain one bit.  Competition venue is like 20 minutes away and weigh-ins are tomorrow at 6:30pm.

Wrestling will occur Sunday beginning at 2pm with the finals at 7:30pm.  Of course, I had to get street smart to get some rooms as they had them all mixed
up, but that happens every time so it’s not a big deal.  I have a feeling we are staying at the nicest place in the area as prices for everything are comparable to the US.  But hey, we have regular plugs, flat screen tv’s complete with a few English channels, two nice beds, and great food and coffee.  So overall going great.  Even have wireless at the moment, but when there is a mass influx of people using it you can’t get on.  I will try and attach some pics in the near future.

All for now, Kutzy

(3:09 pm, EST, May 7)

Today we have weigh-ins at 6:30 pm.  Competition will be tomorrow at 1 pm.  Greco did not finish up last night and we got back to the hotel at 2am and then left at 6 am,  so I’m hoping they add another mat for the Freestyle.  We’re about to head to the sauna in the hotel to get the last few pounds off the team.  Saunas can be a real commodity in these situations and I do have a back-up (but it’s 20 minutes away). We will have to see here in a bit.  I’ve been sweetening up the spa personnel so hopefully that will go a long way.

We’re at elevation here (7200 ft) so training in Colorado prior to this should be a benefit.  Trip is going smoothly and well, so I’ll try and get out updates when I can.  The internet here seems to work fine during the day but not at night at all.
Gotta go, Jason
